All the ice caps have melted - both polars, and Greenland together. But that's not why the world was destroyed. All of that ice, as hard to believe as it is, only rose the sea levels about .042 of a mile. Which is barely enough to flood the coastal cities and the lower countries like Indonesia. However, the eventual rise in the temperature at the bottom of the ocean matched the temp at or not too far below the surface, causing the entire ocean cycle to cease to exist. That means no more ocean currents. Stopping this cycle had a huge effect on weather patterns around the globe. The rise in ocean temps resulted in bigger, more fierce and damaging storms. Because the ice caps keep the ocean at a cooler temp, when they melted it caused most of the animals to become sick and die. This would also have an effect on agriculture due to the rise in air temperature, which was also caused by the death of ocean currents, creating droughts and huge changes in weather patterns and activity. It also contributed to new diseases. All of the pathogens and air borne illnesses lying within the four thousand year old ice were released. And as if that wasn't enough, there was war within the smaller countries that the larger ones refused to be involved in. The Muslims soon began a chemical war against the Europeans, causing skin cancer and skin related diseases. Soon, everyone except Russia is involved with this war. While they're at war, peaceful Russia creates a man made Sun, which lights up the dark side of the planet. They messed up, though, and failed to think through what this would cause to nature. Without the darkness, dew does not coat any of the foliage and causes humongous droughts. And soon after this, most of the world is destroyed. Barely any humans live on any of the continents now except Russia, which is fairly populated compared to what it used to be. A few years passed, and then a comet rams into the Moon. And now, Earth sports a belt of rocks and dust.

After a decade of hard working, scientists have finally found a way to destroy the man made Sun. Getting the rocket ready, they launched out within a day of the discovery. Despite it's doubts, the launch was successful. The explosion of the artificial Sun shook the Earth, but no major damage had been done. It took them a half decade later to find a way to speed up the Earth's rebirth process. Filling giant gun-type test tubes with a special chemical, they took helicopters all over Russia and began to spray the hopefully successful chemical. After a few years of observation, so far it has worked. The only oddity they have found in the animals is the size of the wolf packs. They seem to have more members, but with less variety of packs. Any further oddities are still under surveillance.
