Nicholas raised his snout in the air, taking deep breaths of the cool morning air, and relishing the cool before the start of the day. This was the part of the day that he liked best, along with the evening, because they were both cool. Everyone knew that Texas was quite...hot. It was one of the reasons why he hated the summer's because his coat was thick no matter what season he was in. His tail twitched to one side for no reason at all, other then the fact that he needed to do something, and this seemed to be it. Finally, his lips cracked into a smile, and he barked a laugh as he rolled in the dirt.
The male soon climbed to his paws again into a sitting position next to one of the gravestones, and shook his head to get the excess dirt from it. It was strange how things felt at times. At some times, they seemed to be strange, depressing. At others, he seemed to feel only monotone. That was how the world worked. That was how it operated. It operated on mystery. It was why Nicholas was curious-- why did he feel like he was merely in an operating tube at times? As though none of this was real, and that they were at the mercy of humans that poked and prodded? Oh, look, he reacts to pain...
It seemed strange. Sick. And, in a masochistic way, he enjoyed it. He wanted to experience more of it, but at other times, the world seemed to be very friendly and happy. Full of hope and potential. And at others, it seemed monotone. Without feeling, and without happiness. Without sadness, without...madness. He grinned. "Everything is with madness of some kind. It just depends on what kind it is." A chuckle came to his mouth, and he closed tawny-colored eyes with a smirk. [/blockquote]

honour it's every dog for themselves
This was the best time of the day. Early morning - cool, sweet, and the humans were silent except for the few that got in their dreadful medal monsters. When their pups were still asleep, many of the humans got in their cars and drove off. 'Quiet time, probably,' thought the canine. She exited the alley, slipped through the quiet streets, and let her paws carry her. "Scratch, scratch, scratch" her nails sounded against the pavement. "Scratch, scratch, scratch." Oh how that annoyed her. She just wanted to break them off, get away from that silly sound, but that would leave her defenseless, so she would have to deal. Honour pondered only for a second before switching directions, speeding to a trot as she went to her favourite scratching posts - tombstones in the graveyard. She knew lots of strays that refused to go there, afraid of what lurked within. To her it was just the same as being on the streets. Tongue lulling, she slipped through one of the bent bars in the back of the graveyard. She knew for a fact that this was the way the older human pups liked to use when it was nighttime, and she had taken to using it as well, for it got her away from the people that sobbed over the rough stones.
Once inside, she went on high alert. Drawing in long streams of air, she scented what had been there. Humans had just left, leaving the creepy area alone, except for one lone creature- a dog. 'Perhaps another stray? She asked her mind, knowing she would not get a reply unless she found out herself. With a breathless groan of annoyance, she slipped silently through the green fronds, seeking the being who was there as well.
She stopped; there he was, rolling in the dirt and acting like an idiot. Honour almost laughed aloud, but stopped herself. She had been weary of this?
-"Everything is with madness of some kind. It just depends on what kind it is."-
She wasn't mad. She was quite sure she wasn't mad, but the dog in front of her seemed to be. Now content that he was nothing but loony, she turned to leave. Doubts clouded her mind, ramming into each other at a hundred miles an hour. 'What if he is crazy and attacks? What if his intentions are to hurt her? What if he was just waiting for her to let her guard down so he could kill her?'
Silly thinking as it was, she couldn't shake the doubts, and turned her head to look back at him. So many 'what ifs'.
What if...?

Nicholas stopped, smelling the air. He could smell the other dog first, and then see. She was a small dog-- to him, at least. The male found himself slowly moving to a stand, and smirked/grinned. "Hello there." The silky, predator-like voice he had was made worse by his build, while his tail wagged slowly from side to side while his tawny eyes felt like deep pits of empty emotion. The monotone-pits added to the eerie feeling of his smile, and his ears pricked forward to hear anything she had to say. A soft, lazy wind pulled at his long fur, and he continued. " All day, don't you feel as if someone was watching you? I do. It's like we're all little experiments in the entire scheme of things." Nicholas sighed, shaking his head, before having his smirk change into an actual warm one. " The name's Nicholas. You can call me Nick, if you like," the male replied, moving to a talking distance between both of them. [/blockquote]

The male began to talk, and the chill of his voice made her fur stand on end. It sounded like he was crazy and ice surrounded his insides. It actually wouldn't surprise her if he was dead; no, that was stupid. But it was a thought.
His voice started to fall deaf on her ears, as Honour noticed the sheer size of him. Farther away he seemed to be about the same size. As he stepped forwards, closing the distance to a talking distance, she could see that he stood heads taller than her, and obviously outweighed her in muscle.
Her ears perked - did he just say his name? His voice had changed, softer, sweeter, less menacing. She watched him wearily, expecting him to snatch her up when she was off guard.
Wait, who'd he say he was? Something that started with the sound 'n'. Whatever, she didn't need it.
"Honour," she replied softly, her voice like a bell that was slightly sharp. There was something off about him. She didn't trust him.

-"Honour,"-
Nicholas grinned all the more, and chuckled as he trotted a dance in spot, shaking his fur. "That's wonderful, Honour! Such a beautiful name." A sigh of happiness came from his throat, and his eyes danced over the smaller dog. Such a cute little dog. Little to him, at least, for he bet that she could pack quite the punch when put to the test. However, it wasn't her strength he was accessing. The way she held herself and the color her fur was was where his eyes were. An odd place to access, but, nonetheless, he did so. " I'm very happy to meet you. After all, not many dogs put up with me-- that you do is a miracle in and of itself..." A chuckle came from his furry chest, and he lay himself down once more-- very much at ease. He felt the wind on his fur for what was, perhaps, the last time, and he closed his eyes to enjoy it more. Then he was up again, the thought of that being the last of the cold until evening bothering him, and his eyes narrowed to mere slits-- hackles bared. " Why is it that the cold is so quick in coming, but the heat: anger, rage, hatred-- that's so hard to leave? It's like picking out claws!" A low, deep, growl-filled bark came from his stocky chest, and his tail bristled before...before he was calm again, smiling toward her once more. The smile was in his eyes as well, as they sparkled with goodness and friendliness unlike before. [/blockquote]

Honour's head ducked at the compliment. "Er, thanks... Nick?" The way his eyes ran over her was disturbing. She sidestepped, unconsciously trying to get away from his gaze.
- I'm very happy to meet you. After all, not many dogs put up with me-- that you do is a miracle in and of itself... -
She blinked. "Well, I just met you, but I guess I'm happy to meet you as well. And I haven't really gotten to form an opinion of you, considering we've only just met. But hopefully we'll become friends and then I don't mind putting up with you?" She wasn't quite sure what was going on here, with the topic changing violently at the next sentence.
-Why is it that the cold is so quick in coming, but the heat: anger, rage, hatred-- that's so hard to leave? It's like picking out claws!-
Honour flinched backwards, shocked. "...did I anger you?" she asked in a small voice. "I'll leave if you need me too..." She trailed off, feeling awkward with the sudden angst.

-"Er, thanks... Nick?"-
Nicholas nodded, smiling friendly at the female. His ears pricked curiously toward her, and he seemed quite different then what he had been before: aggressive, and before that; a bit eerie. But now he seemed quite nice, and, judging by the sparkle in his eyes, he would stay this way for quite a bit. "Yes, indeed, that is it. And I'm sorry if I'm weirding you out-- some dogs say I do, but I try not to. It's simply that I, at times, am not myself. So I can't, necessarily, be completely honest with you when I say that I wont do that again. I can, however, be honest with you that I'll try not." Nicholas' tail wagged in a friendly manner, and he sat himself near her with a relaxed posture. - "Well, I just met you, but I guess I'm happy to meet you as well. And I haven't really gotten to form an opinion of you, considering we've only just met. But hopefully we'll become friends and then I don't mind putting up with you?"- The male nodded. " I hope we will, Honour. I'm sure, like your name, you live it, eh?" His eyes flickered to her's in a curious manner, wondering if her personality was what she was showing him, or something completely different and surprising. - "...did I anger you?"- Nicholas' eyes grew sad, and his tail stopped its wagging. " No...no, it's not you. I have this...problem. Apparently my emotions are in a flux due to something that I don't remember. I'm quite sorry if I startled you-- I didn't, did I?" His eyes grew wide, and a shocked/ashamed look came onto his face, and his tail gave one brief swish and settling. - "I'll leave if you need me too..."- He shook his head fiercely, smiling wide toward her. " No, do stay. I enjoy company when I'm in this type of mood. Luckily, you've caught me at an excellent time.

honour it's every dog for themselves
Just like that he was friendly. It was getting pretty creepy, but perhaps he was just on his man-period.
-Yes, indeed, that is it. And I'm sorry if I'm weirding you out-- some dogs say I do, but I try not to. It's simply that I, at times, am not myself. So I can't, necessarily, be completely honest with you when I say that I wont do that again. I can, however, be honest with you that I'll try not.-
Was it that obvious? She shook her head. "No, no. You're fine. You're just the first stay I've talked to in a while. It's not like your trying to do it intentionally. You're just.. being you." Getting a little bold she stepped forwards and crouched, lapping his cheek in comfort before backing up slightly and laying down with him.
-I hope we will, Honour. I'm sure, like your name, you live it, eh?-
Honour smiled. "Well, I try to, at least. I'm not sure if I do or not. You'll have to clue me in when we know each other better." She was relaxed around him now, opening up and being friendlier and not so skittish. He wasn't a bad guy, you just had to get past first impressions sometimes.
-No...no, it's not you. I have this...problem. Apparently my emotions are in a flux due to something that I don't remember. I'm quite sorry if I startled you-- I didn't, did I?-
A problem? Well, certainly there were worse dogs out there. He seemed lonely, though, so she took it upon herself to cheer him up and be his friend from then on. "That's sad.. But it's what makes you 'you'. So I love that's how you are. It startled me the first time, because I didn't really feel comfortable around you. But I'm fine now, and you should be as well."
-No, do stay. I enjoy company when I'm in this type of mood. Luckily, you've caught me at an excellent time."-
Honour cocked her head, puzzled. "This type of mood? I don't quite understand. I suppose that's a good thing, though, that I caught you at this moment and not a bad one? Ah, oh well. We would have become friends no matter what. It's just destiny, I guess."

-"No, no. You're fine. You're just the first stay I've talked to in a while. It's not like your trying to do it intentionally. You're just.. being you."
Nicholas smiled happily, leaning into her lick, before his tail started wagging at a friendly pace once more. "Thank you, Honour. But really, I'll try not frightening you, hm?" He nodded a few times, his ears pricking forward to listen intently. " So, how about you? Have any family?" He asked this carefully, wondering if that was a sensitive subject. Some dogs seemed to have very thin skin, and he didn't want to drive away this new friend of his. - "Well, I try to, at least. I'm not sure if I do or not. You'll have to clue me in when we know each other better."- Nicholas smirked, but this time it was a more friendly one as he flicked one ear. " I'm sure I will, Honour." An amused grin found its way onto his face, and his tail wagged all the more, and slowly (oh so slowly) feeling the sun on his fur after the night. - That's sad.. But it's what makes you 'you'. So I love that's how you are. It startled me the first time, because I didn't really feel comfortable around you. But I'm fine now, and you should be as well."- " That's good, then! I didn't scare away a dog for once." A bark of a laugh came from his mouth, and the male tooka chance, and gave a friendly lick on the top of her head. He nodded at her second comment, but only that. He didn't wish to talk about every other moods that he had-- right now, he was almost normal. Almost. [/blockquote]

-So, how about you? Have any family?-
Honour's expression immediately hardened, thinking about her mother. "No," she said bluntly.
-I'm sure I will, Honour.-
She returned to the smile, loosening her tensed muscles now. "Thanks," Honour laughed, her ears perking up.
-That's good, then! I didn't scare away a dog for once!-
The black and white dog chuckled. "Well, you can't scare me away anymore!" She felt a warm tongue lap her head and she ducked her head bashfully, hiding her face in her legs and paws. She ignored the fact that he didn't answer the moods comment. He would tell when he was more comfortable.
"How about you? Any family?" She asked, prompting conversation. Not to mention that this male was interesting and she wanted to learn more about him.

-"No,"-
The brute stopped his tail wagging for a few moments, before continuing once more, and ignoring the blunt tone. After all, he did reply bluntly several times, so it was only fair that she could as well, right? Right.
-"Thanks,"-
Nicholas nodded shifting his paw so that one of his front paws were folded under his chest. It was nice meeting a dog who didn't look a bit weirdly at him as if he had a few screws loose. Or turning tail and running when he turned even more aggressive then he did right now.
-"Well, you can't scare me away anymore!"-
An amused chuckle came from his throat, and he barked a laugh. "I hope I wont. I'll try not to, anyway." He hoped he wouldn't. She seemed like quite the nice friend, and, if he were to be able to keep her as one, then he wouldn't be lonely anymore! Someone to show what he did yesterday! - "How about you? Any family?"- He paused, thinking. From what he cared to remember, he did have a family. A big one. But, lately, contact had been minimal. " Last time I remember, I think my mother was screaming something about voices, and my father was a clean freak. But who knows, you know? They might be gone off somewhere. My dad might have finally got my mother to calm down. I think I also have three brothers." A shrug accompanied his words. He didn't very much give a thought about his weird family. He couldn't complain because that was where he was at, basically. [/blockquote]

Honour nodded. "Doubt you will, Nick!" she chuckled.

"Voices, a clean freak, and three brothers. Nice." Honour chuckled. She felt kind of guilty now. he had told her about his family. Frowning she told him about hers.
"Well, my mum was a bitch and I never knew my father, 'cause he was an idiot and got ran over. Although my mum always said he was just like her, only in male form. So I hated both of my parents. I had a brother who died when we were still very young, and my sister was taken by the humans when we were finding food a year or two ago. I don't know where my mum is; hopefully got ran over." Honour closed her eyes and sighed. "Yup, that's my family."

He nodded eagerly, a bark coming from his big chest. "Just in case, you know? Don't take what I say seriously, m'kay?" -"Voices, a clean freak, and three brothers. Nice."- " Yes, indeed. They nearly starved before he had gone off on his own, which was why he added the 'think' part. He had no idea if his brothers were still alive. - "Well, my mum was a bitch and I never knew my father, 'cause he was an idiot and got ran over. honour it's every dog for themselves
A breeze ruffled her fur, making her shiver slightly even though as the sun climbed higher the air grew dryer and her pelt grew hotter.
- Just in case, you know? Don't take what I say seriously, m'kay? -
Honour laughed, shaking off the rest of the chill. "Of course not Nick! Unless you tell me too, I won't take you seriously. At all." She smiled at him, her eyes twinkling from happiness. He was a nice guy and made her laugh. She knew they would be good friends, odd or not.
- Yes, indeed. My mother would have a ritual she would have us all participate in, and my dad would clean the stuff before we were allowed to eat it. Most of the time it was discarded because it wasn't...clean enough. Or because the voices would kill us from it. -
Brown eyes widened. "How did you survive?! Out here there isn't much.. 'clean' food. You might have been lucky to get one piece a week that you all had to survive off of!"
- I'm quite sorry, Honour. Let's hope that we never run into them again, eh? -
She smiled sadly. "Not my mom, at least. I'm actually curious as to what happened with Crescendo. There's always rumors, but who knows how much of it is true, if any? We had always been close... but I don't know how close we would be if she escaped and came back. It's been a long time."

-"Of course not Nick! Unless you tell me too, I won't take you seriously. At all."-
He barked out a laugh, his head cocking to one side in curiosity at the female. She was quite the rare one, hm? Not quick to judge, but also smart enough to know. "That's good to know. At least, I think so." A playful smirk edged onto the edges of his lips, and his tail continued its seemingly never-ending thumping of happiness. - "How did you survive?! Out here there isn't much.. 'clean' food. You might have been lucky to get one piece a week that you all had to survive off of!"- He shook his head, marvelling at it as well. " My mother, when she was in one of her more sane moods; she would help clean the food in this semi-clean pond near where we lived. It was the only way to get our father off our backs. However, she steadily grew worse until we nearly starved...by then we were ready to go off on our own, so all of us took off. I haven't heard from any of them recently." A shrug of his broad shoulders suggested that he didn't care for them, but as an afterthought, sadness crept into his deep, tawny eyes. He did miss them, if not only his brothers. - "Not my mom, at least. I'm actually curious as to what happened with Crescendo. There's always rumors, but who knows how much of it is true, if any? We had always been close... but I don't know how close we would be if she escaped and came back. It's been a long time."- " I hope I'll be a part in finding her, eh? Maybe we could look around the city?" He suggested it, but a sliver of doubt crept into his thoughts. It was doubtful that she was still here, after all this time. Still, no harm in trying, hm? No harm at all. Hope, as he knew it personally, was a very good thing to have. It added extra boosts... [/blockquote]
