hard to find how i feel,
controlling me every step of the way. Mackenzie walked toward the shanty arena where the sounds of dogs ripping at each other and humans yelling combined to make a senseless noise. Kenzie slowly walked toward the place she hated, yet fascinated, the most.
She peered through the slits in the wood, and saw what was usual of dogs fights. She had walked up on one that was about to start. The owners held their dogs by the collars, each dog lunging at the other.
It amazed Kenzie that the dogs could go from being calm and content, to killing machines in only a second. Then again, she had been in that position a few times before. She was content with not having to fight every day of her life like them, though.
She had no real owner. The human she had been with before wanted money, like a lot of them did. He went to get it in a very brutal way. What did it matter now, though? She was gone and he'd probably pick up the next dog he thought was fit for fighting.
The sudden uproar shook Kenzie's thoughts out of her head. A dog had fallen and the exchanging of money was being done, and the next dogs being brought out to fight.
Kenzie smirked. Some humans threw insults out the dog that lay lifeless on the ground, waiting to be dragged away and discarded like many before it. He's dead. What's the point of screaming at him? Kenzie shook her head at the thought.
Kenzie watched as all the humans made bets and talked to each other about which dogs looked stronger, which would most likely win and so on.
"Mackenzie talks," Mackenzie thinks, "you're talking".

Yelling. Barking. Growling. Yelping. She'd heard all these sounds, no doubt. She lived on the streets of inner city Austin, how could you not hear some crazy shit? But this, this sounded so foreign, so...wrong. Nevaeh had never been down this part of the city; the bad section. And it showed. Bad. Nevaeh was used to seeing children playing in parks, on swings; not committing crimes. The petite little canine limped cautiously around the outside of the bustling arena, attempting to mask herself among the large crowd of humans and dogs. Oh, if only she knew how terribly obvious she was.
The godawful smell was the first thing that hit her. That tangy, metallic scent of blood swallowed Nevaeh, and she resisted the urge to turn around and haul some serious ass. Honestly, that would have been the better decision. As she came into a small clearing, she nearly stepped onto the corpse of a freshly killed dog. Looking around, Vay saw nothing but sick joy upon the deceased dog's owner. Disgusting.
Vomit. She wanted to vomit. Blind with fear, she spun around on her haunches and ran, dodging dogs and humans alike. Suddenly, she felt a searing pain rush up from her dainty, crimson covered paw, causing her to exert a wild and unnatural limping gait. Turning around to see what utterly stupid, clumsy fool had stepped on her, Nevaeh didn't notice the canine right in front of her until she smacked right into her, toppling both of them over.
Now I really want to vomit, Yeah, she knew she was screwed.

hard to find how i feel,
controlling me every step of the way. Kenzie watched as the next two dogs lunged at each other. Suddenly, she felt something run into her side, and she was sent skidding across the dirt. She got up, and shook off the dirt from her fur. "Why don't you watch where you're going next time?" she growled, turning to face the one who ran into her.
Her face lightened some as she saw the blonde colored female that was full of fear. It was obvious that she had never been around this side of Austin. Her body wasn't dotted with scars like Kenzie and many other dogs around.
She walked over to the stranger and helped her up, which was something Kenzie rarely did. But this dog didn't belong here, and she didn't need to be here. So she couldn't help but ask, "What are you doing here? It's no place for a dog like you."
Kenzie's head slung around as un uproar came from the humans once again, and the snarling of the dogs raised as well. She looked back at the female and introduced herself. "I'm Mackenzie. Feel free to call me Kenzie, though." She glanced back through the makeshift arena, the fight still in progress.
"Mackenzie talks," Mackenzie thinks, "you're talking".

Frozen with fear. Nevaeh had never really pondered on that saying seriously. I mean, you can't really be /frozen/ with fear. Oh, yes you can, she thought as she swept her steady gaze over the opposing canine. The female Vay faced now was not unlike any of the other dogs here. Scars, old and new, traced her body; lean muscles could easily be seen under her multicolored pelt; brown eyes blazing angrily.
Suddenly, as if a click went off inside her head, the canine switched gears. Nevaeh felt a rush of relief and gratitude as she helped her up, and she wagged her tail slightly. "Thank you." Her voice was soft, barely above a whisper. "What are you doing here? It's no place for a dog like you." Vay's furrowed her eyebrows and daintily cocked her head to the side. What should I say? She feverishly racked her brain for an answer. "I got lost.", she lied. Knowing that she's easier to read than a picture book, she hastily followed her gaze towards the arena, hoping she wouldn't get caught in a lie. Already.
Kenzie. She liked that name.Turning her attention back towards Mackenzie, she flashed her the sweetest, most angelic smile she could muster up in this ghastly environment. "I'm Nevaeh. And I must know, what are /you/ doing here?" It was not an accusation, or meant to sound harsh. She was just naive and curious.

hard to find how i feel,
controlling me every step of the way. "thank you."
Kenzie nodded. The female was very soft spoken, the complete opposite of her.
"i got lost."
Kenzie nodded slightly once again. The female smiled, which was pretty rare in a place like this. At least for a dog, that is, not such much a human.
"i'm nevaeh. And i must know, what are /you/ doing here?"
"Well, I don't really know. You could say that fighting is part of my life.." Kenzie's attention was brought away from Nevaeh and directed to a group of humans who were leaving the arena.
One managed to catch sight of them, and mumbled something Kenzie didn't understand. They all turned their heads toward them, and they made a brave move. The one that saw them came running to try and capture them for fighting purposes, obviously.
Some ran back into the arena for some odd reason. Kenzie couldn't careless why they did. She glanced at Nevaeh, anger glistening in her eyes, but they weren't directed at her. "You better run unless you want to get ripped to pieces!" Kenzie looked back toward the human who had arms outreached toward her.
Kenzie instinctively lunged out at his arm. Her jaws closed down onto his arm, and she started jerking and pulling. Her teeth easily punctured the flesh and the man cried out in pain. The others who were with him came and started beating Kenzie to make her release the grip. Fists and feet rammed into Kenzie's sides, legs and chest, almost at the same time.
With the breath nearly knocked out of her, she let the man's arm go and retreated from the group of people. A sharp pain shot through her leg. She stopped a few feet away, but the humans weren't going to give up that easily. She couldn't take any more beatings in her current state, so she ran. She wasn't sure where Nevaeh was, but she hoped she wasn't still near the arena.
"Mackenzie talks," Mackenzie thinks, "you're talking".

"Well, I don't really know. You could say that fighting is part of my life.."
Kenzie's words bothered Nevaeh. Deeply. The slight smile on her face was quickly erased and replaced with a concerned frown. I can't even begin to imagine what she has gone through.
The next few minutes seemed to happen in a heartbeat, but at the same time it felt like all went by in blurred slow motion. She heard Kenzie bark an order to her, but at the same time, she heard nothing. Nevaeh stood rooted to the spot, staring blankly at the humans making their way towards the two.
Once Kenzie lashed out and tore into the plump, ill looking man, Vay snapped out of it. A frightened yelp rang out from her jowels as she felt a meaty arm wrap around her tiny frame, and she looked over at her newly found.../friend/?
Struggling with her own fight, Nevaeh barely noticed Kenzie slipping away quickly and with, what she thought, was minor injures. The other two men had their attention focused on the bleeding arm of their pack leader, she supposed. Now was her chance. Vay looked up at the man holding her, he couldn't have been older than seventeen, just a pup. Guilt filled her eyes as she hastily chomped down, not /too/ hard, on her handler. Yelling, he dropped her and started calling for backup.
Taking her chance, the little blonde canine rushed after Kenzie, her heart still beating rapidly. She soon found herself in a calm and fairly deserted area behind the arena. Brindle pools surveyed the landscape around her, peering closely into the shadows. Where was she? "Kenzie?" What was supposed to be a strong yell was only a hoarse cry. Exhaustion took over Nevaeh. She still wasn't used to strenuous running, let alone fighting. Sighing, she lowered herself to her belly and starting licking her throbbing paw, hoping Mackenzie would return. tag; mackenzie words; 320 notes; bad post. :c sorry ~ ipod; ---

hard to find how i feel,
controlling me every step of the way. Kenzie's feet lightly touched the ground as she sprinted away painfully. She looked forward, panting heavily. Suddenly she remembered. Nevaeh! She slowed to a stop, barely putting weight on her left front leg. She turned and looked at all the humans gathered outside the arena. There were now two of the humans cradling their arms in pain. Kenzie giggled a little, for she thought it was amusing in that sadistic way she tended to have. Focus, Kenzie! She looked around, her chocolate eyes surveying the surrounding land. The dirt was stained with old and new blood. She looked for any sign of Nevaeh. It was just dirt, the arena and a small group of humans comforting the two injured ones. Kenzie let out a sigh, but continued looking. The pain shot through her leg once again, and she licked it some, as if it was going to help it somehow. She took what little weight she had on it off, and watched the people gathered at the arena. "kenzie?" Her ears perked forward, as she thought she heard her name. Whether it was or not, she got up and started to go in the direction it came from, as it could be Nevaeh. She went from a fast walk to a slow run. A limp was obvious in it, though. She continued on toward the back of the arena where she thought it was coming from. She somehow made her way undetected by the humans and rounded the corner of the arena. To Kenzie's relief, it was Nevaeh that called her name. "There you are," she said, with a sigh of relief. "You're lucky they didn't take you or kill you.""Mackenzie talks," Mackenzie thinks, "you're talking". ------------------------------------- tag - Nevaeh, words - 285 notes - none. lyrics - Greed by Godsmack [/blockquote][/blockquote]
