honour it's every dog for themselves
Each step was like electricity running through her nerves. 'This is where they said they saw her last... This place...' went through her mind. 'This place..'
This place was disgusting. Rotting bodies filled the air, decomposing quickly under the hot Texan sun. Vultures swooped down, picking at the flesh and meat, flies laying their eggs and taking their leave. Bones littered the ground, a gruesome memorial to those who had died out there. The ground was bleeding, maroon blood staining the earth.
If Crescendo had really been here, she must had been miserable. If she was still here, she must have gone crazy. With the stench of death constantly suffocating you as you breathed, Honour understood why they called this place the 'bloodied circle'.
She shook her bi-coloured head. She needed to focus on the task at hand. She took in deep, long breaths, trying to find that one special scent. Her sisters. It was there. Fresh, overridden by odors, but definitely there. As she slowly pushed on through the heat and masses of corpses, a low roar was coming into hearing. People.
Also with people, she could hear dogs barking, snarling, jaws clamping and hearts racing. She could hear boards rattling and jests thrown, bets placed and peoples' groans. The fighting arena.
Honour knew it was dangerous to approach, but her sister was there. Her sister needed her. As she followed Crescendo's scent, the border collie mix chuckled and spoke to the dog that accompanying her.
"We're just like bloodhounds, Nicholas. Just like bloodhounds."

Nicholas' eyes slowly flickered around the area, his eyes falling upon the growls and snarls-- the humans here, the annoyance they displayed at the dogs, and snarls/growls echoing from the dogs. It was violence everywhere, and the blood soaked into the ground like it was candy. Obscenities were shouted by both human and dog, and cries of pain came from both species. This part of the world was nearly pure evil, and Nicholas kept up with Honour with a little snarl of warning on his face. All dogs could see that he meant business, should someone try to attack/come up to them. His hackles were ever-so-slightly raised, and his ears were flattened as much as they could, with his tail stiff and slight bristling.
Everything about this place was...evil, almost. Even the odd Nicholas could feel it, but he had promised Honour that they would look, and look they shall. As long as her sister wasn't among the dead, that was. For once in his life, he hoped her sister was quite the killer. For, if she were anything else, and she was here, then she would most certainly be killed.
The male lifted his head to sniff the air, and smelled stale air, blood, humans, and tons of dogs. This was the worst place to be, and he hoped they could leave with the reassurance that her sister most certainly wasn't here. Dogs were the least of problems here.
Shaking his head and hearing the chain, metal collar rattle, he was reminded of the leash he had trailing behind him. It wasn't very long-- merely a few feet, but it was enough for humans to grab it, and he didn't want that happening. Of course not. That was the most obvious thing ever said in the history of all doggy/human history, but it didn't make the urgency less.
-"We're just like bloodhounds, Nicholas. Just like bloodhounds."-
"Yes, indeed..." Nicholas responded with a near-mutter. Best to get this done and over with. [/blockquote]

crescendo kill or be killed
It was all she could do. Lunge, snap, tear, repeat. Dodge. Lunge, snap, tear, repeat. Adrenaline rushed through her, her scarred and beaten body pushing itself past it's limit. The will to live coursed through her, the only thing keeping her alive. No thoughts passed through her head. She could hear her master yelling at her, "Go for the throat! Go for the throat!"
Deadly obedient, she switched her direction from the head to the throat, latching on. The other dog, already blinded, writhed and twisted, only causing him more pain. Growling, she dragged him to the ground and stood over top of him, shoving his body into the dirt. No thoughts for mercy blessed him. Holding the other dog down, she yanked back, tearing open his throat.
She backed away, her eyes cold as she watched the broken dog twitch and gasp until the life ebbed away completely. Blood still trickled from his body, collecting in little pools.
As money was collected, whoops and hollers sounded, groans grumbled, she caught scent of two dogs through her blood encrusted nose. Like she had been taught, she immediately swung around to face their direction, barking and throwing herself against the makeshift arena, little cracks and broken slats allowing her to see them, driving her crazy.
One of their scents never clicked in her head. Her brain was broke, the gears rusted over and unused. She was a hollow being, fighting only to survive.
Crescendo had lost everything that had been hers.

She approached the arena, staying out of reach of the humans. Through the errors in the arena's structures, she could see the fight.
It horrified her. That was her sister. She watched Crescendo drive the dog into the ground, ripping it's throat apart and killing it, and then catch the scent of Nick and her and slamming herself into the wall trying to get to them. For their blood. Her blood was boiling, for they had changed Crescendo from the sweet innocent pup she had been to a killing machine.
Humans tried finding what was making Crescendo crazy. Honour knew she should move, get out of there, but she couldn't leave without Crescendo. She was frozen in fright, seeing the blood on Crescendo, the crazed look in her eye, and the force at which she flung herself, wanting her prey worse than anything in the world.

Nicholas watched the female rip and tear at the other dog; seeing the bits of everything flutter to the ground, and cheers going up among the crowd. It was all he could do not to grimace in disgust. It was idiotic the way the human mind thirsted for violence...then again...many dogs thought the same as well. It was a little while to determine that the female in the arena was slamming into the boards.
Nicholas, his face twisted into a snarl, his ears laid back, and his tail bristling, barked violently back, his teeth making very aggressive-sounding snaps of his teeth. His muscled tensed, and he forgot that Honour had seemed to recognize the dog. For now, all that mattered to him, was him and Honour surviving this encounter to this dog, no matter what the cost. In response to the motion, the chains he had rattled and clattered with extra noise added to the commotion. All in all, a very noisy scene.
"Don't you DARE come closer!" He snapped out, his eyes into mere slits. notes: IT'S HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE. words: 182 tag: Honour musice: The Showdown- No Escape [/blockquote]

crescendo kill or be killed
Her master was yelling at her. Screaming, more like it. Incoherent words too loud to make sense of blasted through her ears like the blood that was flowing through her veins. Stuff was thrown at her, but she continued to roar at the dogs. One returned the howls, barking at her. She didn't pay attention to the word,s it just riled her up more.
She yelped as her owner climbed into the arena, grabbing her scruff forcefully to drag her out, and than caught sight of the two dogs. He was shouting to the other humans, who turned towards the two dogs. As she made eye contact with Honour, memories rushed back. She couldn't let her owner know though. Her owner wanted her to kill them or something 'cause he let her go and opened the gate telling her to 'get them,' which he said before every fight.
The liver and white mutt raced towards them, barking. To humans they would think she was going to kill them. to the dogs she made sense. "Honour! You have to get out of here!" She growled at her sister, stopping in front of them and made her fur bristle so the humans would think she was about to attack. They were such stupid creatures.

Crescendo recognized them, she could tell. A knowing slipped into her mismatched eyes, and it made Honour smile. "That's my sister, just so you know," Honour chirped happily. When she saw Crescendo coming she was not afraid. But when Crescendo told them to get out of there, she growled back, "Not without you!"
She pressed into Nick's side comforting. "Now we just need to get out of here with her, she commented to him.

-That's my sister, just so you know,-
That gave Nicholas pause, but soon he spotted the humans that were gathering closer. It was obvious that the violent creatures wanted more of the thing, and were shifting themselves to watch. The more humans that were there to watch, the less of a chance they would be able to get away, which presented a problem for Nicholas and Honour. And her sister, for that matter. "I know now! Hello there!" His friendly smile was off-sided by the low, deep growls that echoed in his chest, and his bristling fur. But they thing was, how were they going to get past this many humans? They were a lot of them, and, to be quite frank, not many doggies that would like to help them and not want to tear their insides out. So then, what to do? Fight her sister? But... - Now we just need to get out of here with her.- Right, right. How to do that without killing anybody, kidnapped by the humans, or trip on a banana?notes: Ahh, Nicholas. crescendo
kill or be killed
The colours swirled in front of her, browns, yellows, blues, purples.. The colours were endless. It was hard to focus on just one of the humans as they stumbled towards them, jeering and spitting. The singe of smoke reached her nose, and they flicked a half-finished cigar at her, hitting her liver and white pelt, burning both fur and skin. Black swirled up from the mark, and like the fighter dog she had been taught, she attacked. It was just on instinct. Her muscles bunched, hackles raised, and the female sprang. She crossed the ground quickly, her breath coming in gulps and gasped right before she pushed off the ground and slammed her claws into the mans chest. Immediately humans scattered, clearing way for the wrestling pair.
Blood had welled up from the holes she had just made, and the white skinned man cursed at her, spitting at her face. She snarled, lunging her body forwards with her teeth open wide towards his face. They snapped close with a sounding crack on open air, the human able to move back. His face was one of fright, for her gleaming whites were not even an inch away from his face. They were so close she could see the droplets of salty sweat forming on his forehead, dribbling down slowly before pooling together on his chin until they got heavy enough to drop in one big sweat drop. Wide, scared eyes met with dark angry eyes, and in her head she heard her masters voice.
'Get him.'
She surged forwards, ducking her head and grabbing his arm in her hands. With her sharp teeth, it wasn't hard to slice into the soft flesh, sinking down until her jaws locked in a signature death grip. Ignoring the blows he was putting to her head and side, she yanked backwards, ripping through both muscle and skin. Jagged welts of blood welled up before spilling over the sides, dying cream skin pink and red. When she got to the hand she ripped it to the left, easily tearing the arm out of socket and breaking the wrist. She jumped back, avoiding a kick to the head. She glared at the man, feeling accomplished and he rolled on the ground, screaming in pain and wailing because he couldn't move his arm.
"Get a grip, you pussy," Crescendo snarled, her lips curling away from her teeth which were now dark with blood. "I go through this every week. You go through this one and you're begging for mercy." She rushed again, this time just running right over him and scratching his sides and back, possibly cracking a few ribs while she was at it. She knew the other dogs must be horrified watching this, but this was who they had turned her into, and no matter how she felt about it, it would end up being who she was forever. It was how she survived, and how she has to survive.
She gripped his boot in her mouth, biting down and making dents into the rubber. She crushed some of the bones there, but bellowed and spat it out, taking several steps back. He had kicked it, shoving it against the back of her throat. She gagged and coughed before launching herself at him again.
This time, though, she was intercepted by a human who kicked her sides as hard as he could, bruising and cracking a rib or two. She whimpered and backed away, head bowed and trying to dodge the blows he was landing on her abused body. She tried to muster the energy to snap at him, but the black rubber was too strong and was trying to push her body past it's breaking point. Ears flat, she surrendered, turned to look at the two friends. "I'm sorry.. but we really need to run. Like, haul ass, kids. And big boy, watch your chain. They're gonna wanna grab that. And.. We should go just about now."
Had it been two years ago, she would have watched to see if they were right behind her. The fighting arena changes a dog though. They learn that they can only rely on themselves and to only worry about themselves. Those who couldn't do that were weak. So she did what she knew. She started to sprint, painfully slow due to her ribs, but she was moving, away from the humans and towards her freedom.

They closed in, menacing and monstrous large. They towered over her, some of them even towering over each other. Their strange language jumbled together in her ears, causing confusion. She shrank backwards, her paws moving on their own for in her head she was frozen in fear, unable to move her body conscientiously. Each movement they made caused her to jump. Her eyes were wide, fear rolling off her in tidal waves like a tsunami.
The cigar flew through the air in stop motion. She could see every detail. The elongated brown shape that smoked and smelled like nastiness in itself. It was worse than the smokey smell of fire, which smelled just a bit nice 'cause it reminded her of beef jerky sometimes. It arced downwards before landing decisively on Crescendo's body and bouncing off, leaving a black ring on her.
The next minutes were horrifying as Crescendo bit and tugged and ripped at the man. She realised how much fighting had changed her, but not as much as the next part. After the canine had left the human shivering and crying in pain she told them they had to run. Then she just started running without waiting for them. She could understand it though, because in fighting you only had yourself, and that was it. After years of that thinking, it would have changed your mindset, and that's exactly what it did with Crescendo.
With sad eyes she watched Crescendo bound away, and then she looked back at the humans. Some were helping the man, the others were leering at them, starting towards the pair with their grubby paws outstretched. "Come on, Nick, let's go!" She said urgently, pushing him and trembling.

Amid the many cries of the human, the dogs picked up their barking in ferocity double-quick-- chaos reigning, and yet, an orderly one. An orderly chaos that quickened the person's spirit, and made them look at all the good left in life, even if they were so blackened and cruel-hearted from these 'games'. Even if they were dragging their lifeless bodies off the arena; even if they were being shredded by another dog. Even if they were too injured to be saved, and they merely lay there-- choking on their own blood. That was the atmosphere, and yet...and yet...dogs found hope in either each other, or that one day saying. One day I'll be free. One day I'll be able to carve open my owner's face. That sort of one day.
But there was an urgency as well. Money changing hands as quickly as you can blink, little dogs being killed like humans eating popcorn. But amid all of this! All of the crying of the dogs! All of the humans shouting! One little thing stood out. One of the humans did, indeed, notice it. More then one, in fact, as they started cramming against each other to see exactly what was happening in the bloodied area. They saw the dog and the human go up against each other, and, in another situation, the human might have had a chance, but, in this one, nothing the male did did anything to the dog. She had continued the snapping. And then it was over, and Nicholas watched with a small, cynical, odd smirk on his face. It was justice, was it not? A human that had forced many dogs to the death being put to death.
It smelled of irony, and, Nicholas, being distracted, didn't realize what else was happening. No, he didn't her Honour's sister calling them to go. He didn't see the humans gathering like bees around them. He didn't realize that anyone or anything would be talking to him until Honour nudged his flank, and he jerked out of the illusion of doling out justice to everyone, and started in the direction Honour seemed to push him to. He heard the words, but everything seemed to be in very slow motion...so very slow...

LUKE. The dog was barking. Now he didn't speak dog-speak, but the dog was looking around, so he figured he was saying where are you. Not to mention the female that took off with the fighter dog Jake owned.. or had, now, he supposed.
He was just going to leave, hop in his pickup truck and leave, but the dog was beautiful. He had distinct Rottweiler markings, but his build was more like some kind of shepherd. The sheer size of him would make him a good fighting dog, and he grinned, revealing what used to be perfectly straight white teeth that were now yellow and cracked from smoking. His expression turned to one of glee when he noticed that the dog already had a collar and leash. Like a madman his grin spread to a beam, reaching from ear to ear. His long legs allowed him to close the distance without much trouble, just had to wade through the crowd. He stretched his hand out to grip the cold leash with his thin fingers, his grip tightening as he tugged the dog towards him. "Get here, you beautiful thing," he murmured, his green eyes locking in on the dog's head. "Come to Luke. Come to Pappa."
He saw the dog snap towards him, which he was ready for, and he quickly yanked the leash up over his head, surely cutting off the dog's airway. "Now now, be nice." He grinned. This was fun. The highlight of his day.

The male was about to try for another one, when he felt his breath stop. That didn't stop him from shaking his head furiously from side to side, his tail bristling, and low growls coming from his throat. The barks that came from his mouth were cursing. This human had dared take hold of the chain that had been ripped from a dead human so long ago?
The male couldn't deny, though, that he felt somewhat faint after a minute or so when the human yanked upward. No...no...he couldn't die, but at the same time, he couldn't go with the human-- at the same time, he knew he would have to. He would have to go with this human to survive without fainting or worse from the tightened chain around his neck. Who seemed to calling himself Luke. Finally, he couldn't deny the need to simply sleep, and he was forced to laying on his side, his ribs heaving up and down, and his mouth open to get all the air inside the cut-off airway.

Nicholas felt very faint. He seemed to be being dragged to a metal thing of some kind, but he was too sleepy to see. His nose sniffed, and brought in the smell of dead dog, and wondered if he was still in the arena. He wasn't, was he? For the noise had faded just the tiniest bit. His mind kept on wondering if, indeed, he was fading away from life, but the smell was very strong, and, eventually, Nicholas felt well enough to raise his head and blearily look around. The dead dog was no surprise, but it appeared he was getting a bit closer with every step.

Luke. Luke chuckled, as the dog wasn't moving except for the faint rise and fall of the sides to show it was breathing. As he got to the pickup he opened the metal cage door. The other dead dog was still inside, but he could car less. Reaching his arms around Nick he picked up the mutt and heaved it inside the cage and locking it before anything could happen.
Walking around to the side of the pickup truck, he drummed on it a few times before hopping in it and turning the key. The engine spit and sputtered for a few seconds before rumbling to life. He put it in reverse and drove off with the dog in the cage in the back.
